This lesson has it all! Students will not only create a beautiful art project but also learn about symmetry (math) and the difference between warm/cool colors. This lesson is designed to use very few materials, but can be painted in watercolor. It can also be adapted for all ages. As far as time goes, allow at least 30 minutes but it can be easily lengthened with more detail. A great companion book to this lesson is, The Little Butterfly That Could by Ross Burach. It would be a great project to integrate with an insect unit.
